1st Durbanville Scouts: Second Beach Clean Up

The 2026 Scout National Challenge is all about water safety and one of the tasks was an environmental service project. Several of our scouts elected to do a second beach clean up! Cape Town's beaches always need a clean up! We wanted to make a difference and show our community that Scouts care about our marine health.
A group of our Scouts got together at Big Bay beach in Cape Town for a beach clean up. The scouts arrived armed with rubbish bags and gloves and spread out along the beach as far as Eerstesteen Nature Reserve. They gathered over 30 large bin bags of rubbish that had been strewn along the beach.
Once again our Scouts were shocked at the amount of litter strewn along our beaches. They witnessed so many people littering in areas that they had just cleaned. However, our Scouts are determined to undertake regular beach clean ups in the hope that they will make a difference.
