STRENGTHENING THE CAPACITY OF NSO - MOP TANZANIA

Core to the Growth and sustainability of reputable stable NSO, is the presence of up to date programme supported by procedures and systems that ensures accountability, transparency, commitment and measurable results. TSA for over 10 years has been under poor management systems which negatively affected the effective delivery of the Scout programme as well as the image of Scouting. After realization of these issues, Tanzania Scout Association (TSA) new leadership has decided to change the situation. On the realization of these issues, the current TSA leadership has developed a new Strategic Plan for 2014 to 2017 with the aim to effectively respond to most of these critical needs. For instance , the current Constitution was reviewed in 1997 (it I should happen at least every 10 years). Furthermore, TSA youth programme is was outdated and does not respond to the needs and aspirations of the youth today, as it was last reviewed in 1999. In addition, many of the leaders do not have the updated skills to effectively run Scouting due to inadequate adult leader training over the last years. Despite the current initiatives from TSA to address the issues internally, technical and financial support will be needed externally towards sustainable solution to the challenges. MoP has came at the right time to bring hope to the hopeless as it has strengthen the capacity for self help and result based implementation with informed policies and key documents. TSA has secured a qualified position as full fledged donor complied Association as it meets most of donor criteria, the projects in place includes U-Report from Unicef, MoP, Government recognition and support.
