Dialogue for Peace- Regional Ambassadors training- Europe

Split, Croatia 2019; 3 days, 30 balloons, 26 hours of training, 13 countries, 1 beach party, 5 facilitators and over 100 biscuits, equals one very successful Regional Dialogue for Peace Ambassador training.

‘It was so enriching and mentally stimulating to do this with people that all contributed, shared and inspired each other <3’

Bringing together participants from over 10 National Scout Organisations in Europe, from Finland to Israel, saw how the power of dialogue can be enhanced through richness in diversity.

Throughout the training, participants explored topics from perceptions to conflict, identity to active listening, encouraging them to share their thoughts, practices and ideas on how they can contribute to the culture of peace within their society, for others and continuously invest in their own learning.

As participants understood more about themselves and their perceptions of others, they were able to exercise their dialogue skills during dialogue cafes. We discussed topics from; the current position of Europe in response to refugees, areas of neglect towards sustainable scouting, as well as the meaning of love in conflict.

This Dialogue for Peace Ambassador training creates a unique safe space where regardless of country, culture or religion, participants were able to effectively engage in dialogue on unexplored or frequently taboo topics. Building up a knowledge of peacebuilding and how to be a dialogical scout supported participants to reflect on their own practise, opportunities to apply these new skills and the potential inside their community and NSO.

The future, in the eyes of our participants, is an environment where the power of peace dialogue is understood, applied and embedded within Europe Scouting, reaching every corner of our communities. It is striking how the differences and diversity during the event inspired more ideas for action and collaborative change, we can be confident in these active citizens who now have additional skills for creating a better world.
