YOUR OWN BLOOD MAY SAVE YOUR OWN LIFE

On the 21st of February, 2012, Josuwang District scouts had organized a blood donation activity in commemoration of founder’s day as well as the attainment and Realization of the messengers of peace initiatives. The occasion was held at new life lower and upper basic school. The blood was donated to Jammeh foundation for peace Hospital at Bundung. AIMS OF THE ACTIVITY ·        To contribute to the development of young people in building there capacity and understanding about the difficulties that are face by people in the society, and how to fine solution to those problems through scout method. ·        To work towards the attainment of the vision, mission, and the goals of scouting. ·        To contribute effectively to the fight against infant mortality and maternal mortality rate reduction in the Gambia that links with M.D.G 5 ·        Also to encourage other young people to become a regular blood donor in the society. The camp was held on the 21ST to the 23th of February, 2013, at new life lower and upper basic school at Kanifing. The campers arrived 2:00pm at the School ground for registration. At 4:00pm, The Jammeh foundation for peace Hospital members came to sensitize the entire scouts about the important of donating blood, Gim jobe the secretary general of (J.F.F.P.H) spokes about the important of this activity to the general public. He said that blood is something which is very important for human survival, and when it lacks in the system can cause sudden death. He further stated that the blood we are going to donate could be the one to save some bodies live, who may even be our family members or friends, Kelepha Secka the lab technician at the hospital also shows his sincere gratitude about the activity. He said that Blood is always a problem that leads to the dead of many infants and mothers during or after birth. For that been the case, it is very important to have youths volunteering to minimize these issues. Other members of the team also commented on the significant of donating blood. They also encourage us to keep it up and let us never be discourage on our good turn. Finally, they gave the scouts one bag of rice, half gallon of cooking oil, onion, and other ingredients to add to our feeding, which were highly appreciated. On the 22th February, at 10:00am, after breakfast, the (J.F.F.P.H) bleeding team came started the bleeding. Scouts show their courage and wiliness to donate blood. Though some of them were not qualified to donate blood but yet steel they encourage others to Donate. Those who donated were given a bottle of soft drink and they were asked to relaxed for some munities.   Finally, one hundred scouts donated and according to the lab technician, from their record, this was the highest Paine that they received from donors, and they thank each and every one of us for bleeding and they left. Different Medias were present and some of them were Daily Observer news paper and Today news paper.   However, the Regional commissioner gave a wonderful remark to the scouts by thanking them for their good turn. The Chief scout commissioner also thanks the scouts for their effort.Finally the district commissioner also shows his wonderful appreciation of the job well done of his district members and he promised that his district will always be ready to promote the Messengers of peace initiative through implementing different projects.   Location: New life Lower and Upper basic school.
