Scouts for Clean Air

The Boy Scouts of the Philippines National Office together with Laguna Council, Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Local Government of Pagsanjan Laguna and Barangay Council join together to fight the air pollution as they celebrated the 2019 World Environment Day last 21 – 22 June, 2019.

This year, the World Environment Day became more meaningful to everyone as Scouts, Scout Leaders, and the community, work together accepting the challenge in fighting the climate change (SDG 13), air pollution (SDG 3) and to create biodiversity in the area (SDG 15) in response to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations. With 550 pieces different species of endemic trees planted in the area, the 180 Scouts, 30 Scout Leaders, and 80 the stakeholders from government agencies and individuals, pledged to protect and rehabilitate the environment in Anibong, Pagsanjan, Laguna.

The Scouts and the community were also given training by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources on how to propagate new seedlings to sustain the trees in the community and also the importance of proper segregation of the garbage. The Scouts also undergo training for the World Scouts Environment Programme, the Messengers of Peace, and an introduction to Scouts of the World Award, as their tools in creating sustainable projects for better communities.

At the end of the activity, the Scouts, Scout Leaders, and the community completely rendered 5,220 Service Hours and did understand the importance of clean and healthy environment in the community as they pledged in protecting the environment and natural resources for the next generation.
